The Illinois Corn Growers Association is calling on its members to protect atrazine by commenting on the EPA’s Preliminary Interim Decision on the herbicide.
ICGA says the decision still includes defective studies relying
on poor science that could have drastic consequences in future reviews. They say
they want to correct the science before atrazine goes through the Endangered Species
Act biological evaluation.
ICGA says replacing atrazine with any comparable alternative
would not be as effective and could increase a farmer’s cost of production by
up to $30 per acre.
