Local Sports for Friday July 26th

No matter what sport you are going to get upsets and they old saying “That’s Why You Play-em” came into effect last night in the night-cap of the District 5B Amateur Baseball Tourney in Parkston.  J.J. Farner tossed an amazing game for the Pheasants of Winner/Colome but suffered the loss to the hands of #7 seed Wagner 2-0 in Parkston.  Farner did not allow an earned run as he tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 21 along the way.  The only problem was that Alex Kocer did not allow a run, period, he also gave up three hits to earn the win for the Rockets.  Wagner, 3-8 overall, advances to face the winner of Platte and Mount Vernon at 7:00pm Sunday.  Winner/Colome, 13-4 overall, faces the loser of Platte and Mount Vernon at 8:00pm Tuesday in Parkston.

In the early game last night top-seeded Alexandria used a five-run fifth inning to move past Corsica-Stickney 6-3 in a great opening round game.  The Angels scored all five runs with two-outs in the fifth inning.  Ethan Davis pitched all nine innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits and seven strikeouts in the win for Alexandria, 13-6 overall.  Ross Kortan pitched eight innings, giving up three earned runs on 11 hits and had seven strikeouts in the loss for the Horned Frogs.  Alexandria advances to face the winner of Parkston and Dimock/Emery at 5:00pm Sunday.  Corsica-Stickney, 2-14 overall, plays the loser of the Parkston and Dimock/Emery game in consolation play at 6:00pm Tuesday.

Tonight, in District 5B Amateur Baseball in Parkston Dimock/Emery will battle Parkston in the #4/#5 seeded game at 6:00pm with the late game featuring #3 seed Mount Vernon against Platte.  No games on Saturday but two winner bracket games on Sunday.
