There are some predicting the swing to more corn and fewer
soybeans in 2019 will be less pronounced than once thought.
Illinois ag economist Todd Hubbs is forecasting 91 million acres of corn and just under 86 million acres of soybeans, but says a lot can happen between now and planting time.
“The big uncertainty right now is the trade deal with China, that’s sort of hanging over everything. If that deal comes through (and) we see some change in the relationship and see more sourcing of American ag products, I think it will do positive things for both corn and soybeans.”
In its initial projections, the USDA pegs 2019 corn acreage
at 92 million and soybeans at 82.5 million.
