Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed an Executive Order which transforms the Department of Environmental Quality into the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
“We are elevating protection of the Great Lakes and fresh water to a department level. The department, which will now be known as EGLE, is going to be tasked with that.”
Liesl Clark will serve as the director of the new department and says the order is meant to make the government more responsive to problems with drinking water and the environment.
