More Missouri beef is being served to kids in a dozen school districts in the state. The MO Beef for MO Kids program is a way for Missouri cattle producers to donate to schools and increase the amount of beef offered at mealtime.
Mark Russell, head of the Missouri Beef Industry Council, says the goal is to double the amount of beef participating schools had been serving, “So it’s a very good program that went from one school last year to 12 schools participating this year – and we anticipate probably 30 by this time next year.”
Russell says the Missouri Beef Industry Council dreamed up the idea with the Missouri Department of Agriculture, “We realized that only one out of 10 school lunches nationally
had ANY beef in them.
