The new labels for foods that contain GMOs do not say “GMO.”
They say “bioengineered” and derived from “bioengineering.”

“The term bioengineered is being used because that’s what the law that was passed in 2016 states and bioengineered is a much more specific term to the type of technology that we’re talking here,” he says. “GMO is and has always been a vague, general term.”
Companies will start rolling out the labels soon.
