The vice president of North America for Case IH says despite
the sluggish farm economy equipment sales have increased slightly.
Scott Harris says 2019 is shaping up to be a lot like last
year. “I think we’ll continue to build
on the replacement demand that really drove our industry in 2018,” he
says.
Lower farm incomes are projected to continue and the uncertainty
surrounding trade remains.
But, he says, the ag industry is cautiously optimistic. “The futures for commodities are trending
positive – although modest,” he says. “There’s
certainly some optimism with respect to trade.”
He tells Brownfield equipment manufacturers understand that farmers
are scrutinizing every dollar spent and companies have to prioritize farmers
productivity. “We’re building and designing
our machines to produce the best conditions for a plant to thrive,” he
says. “Which means more productivity out
of every plant stand. We look at
efficiency and efficient power and fuel economy in all that goes with it.”
Harris spoke to Brownfield from the 2019 National Farm
Machinery Show in Louisville.
