University of Missouri to create center for rural school mental health

The University of Missouri has been awarded $10 million by the U.S. Department of Education to create a National Center for Rural School Mental Health.

The center will have an online data and training system to support mental health for students at rural schools and use an early identification system survey developed by researchers to discover student mental health concerns in the early stages.

Within five years, the researchers plan to work with at least 110 rural schools in Missouri, Montana, and Virginia to assess the effectiveness of the program.
