Mitchell’s new indoor aquatic center hosted 242 swimmers representing 10 communities during this weekend’s the 2018 South Dakota Mitchell Aquatic Club Winter Invitational.
The three-day event began Friday afternoon and wrapped up early Sunday evening.
Mitchell Aquatic Club coach Clyde Smith was pleased. “We’re really excited we got to do this and it basically went off without a hitch,” said Smith. “And look forward to hosting more swimmers next year and the year to come.”
He says first-time visitors to the $8.1-million dollar facility were impressed. “They knew we had a nice facility and I don’t think they knew how nice our facility was,” Smith said. “It was well received and I think that they’re looking forward to visiting next year…as well.”
On a side note, Ryan Huber of the Mitchell Aquatic Club noted that Saturday of the tournament was the three-year anniversary of Mitchell voters approving construction of the indoor aquatic center.
