A Mitchell man accused of stabbing another man to death in August of 2017 now says he’s guilty. 50 year old Anthony Lewis was set to stand trial late this month on murder charges in the death of Quinn Patrick Schleuning in the 100 block of East Second.
Lewis agreed to plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter.
In exchange for the guilty plea prosecutors agreed dismiss first and second degree murder charges plus recommend a cap of 40 years in prison with 22 years suspended resulting in 18 actual years in prison. Prosecutors also agreed not to pursue habitual offender charges and dismiss an unrelated simple assault charge. Lewis is responsible for restitution and other costs. Judge Giles agreed to the recommendation.
According to court documents Lewis stabbed Schleuning four times after Schleuning apparently assaulted Lewis’s neighbor. Lewis admitted to during an interview with Police that he stabbed Schleuning.
Giles ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for January 14th at 9 am.
