It was a double-barrel opening to the 2019 Christmas holiday shopping season with Black Friday followed by Small Business Saturday.
Cathy Weber of the Little Red Hen in Mitchell says it was a great day. “We had a steady stream of customers from the time we even turned on one light until we closed the door,” said Weber.
She says customers were in a buying mood. “We sold a lot of the Willow Tree nativities, we sold a lot of Vera Bradley,” Weber said. “We just sold a lot of everything.”
Weber appreciates all who are shopping local for the holidays. “As I’m getting ready to close, if you see the lights on, I’m here,” she said. “I don’t kick anybody out,” Weber chuckled.
She’s expanded her store hours to Sunday afternoons leading up until Christmas. Weber and her daughter Ann spent the better part of Sunday afternoon re-arranging and re-stocking merchandise for the week ahead.
