The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the names of those involved in a pedestrian-vehicle fatal accident last week in White River. Shortly before 9pm on September 23rd, 23 year old Nikki Thin Elk was walking south in the middle of US Highway 83 within the White River city limits.
At the same time 37 year old Julio Ernesto Alonso Torres from Grand Island, Nebraska was driving a Dodge Ram 3500 southbound on U.S. 83 hauling a flatbed trailer. Alonso Torres attempted to brake and swerved when he saw Thin Elk. The Dodge struck Thin Elk who was taken to a Rosebud hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, September 24th.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation which is continuing.
