April 2024 Marks Second Highest Tornado Activity in U.S. History

In April 2024, the United States experienced its second-highest number of tornadoes on record, according to the National Weather Service.

Data indicates that only once before, in 2011, has the country seen more tornadoes in the month of April, with a total of 757 tornadoes that year.

Despite this, the overall number of severe weather reports in April 2024 was only slightly above the 10-year average.

Iowa stood out in particular, experiencing 41 tornadoes in April 2024, the highest number ever recorded for the state in the month of April.
