The USDA says 2018 U.S. wheat production was up 8% from 2017 at 1.885 billion bushels.
Producers planted more wheat, harvested acreage was also higher, and the average yield improved to 47.6 bushels per acre, compared to 46.3 a year ago. Nationally, planted area was 47.8 million acres, compared to 46.022 million in 2017, and harvested area was 39.605 million acres, compared to 37.541 million last year.
Spring wheat was up 50% on the year at 623.232 million bushels, with an average yield of 48.3 bushels per acre, compared to 41 a year ago.
