A top competitor to U.S. pork exports is going through a major production shift.
U.S. Meat Export Federation CEO Dan Halstrom says the European Union has been a formidable supplier of pork for several decades.
“But their industry is making a massive adjustment at the moment, massive. Let me repeat that, a massive adjustment.”
Speaking during the opening general assembly of the USMEF Spring Conference in Minneapolis Wednesday afternoon, he said high input costs, African swine fever trade restrictions within Europe, Ukraine grain disruptions, inflation, and a restrictive regulatory environment are leading to significant contraction.
