A western Indiana farmer says weather has continued to prevent him from planting this season.
Kevin Cox tells Brownfield they have their soybeans planted ahead of the rain expected Monday night.
“We had a little over 1,000 acres starting this morning of corn yet to plant,” he said. “We’ve got all of our beans in the ground and corn now is pretty critical to get in, so we’re running like mad trying to get ahead of this next rain event because they’re talking about an inch of rain out of it at least depending on where you’re at.”
According to the latest crop report from the USDA, 36 percent of Indiana’s corn has been planted, 14 percent behind last year and 3 percent slower than the 5-year average.
