55% of U.S. corn, soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA says corn and soybean development remains slower than average. Planting got off to an historically slow start this year, weather has varied widely during the growing season, and while most near-term forecasts look non-threatening for many areas, even an on-time frost in some areas could cause damage.

As of Sunday, 89% of corn is at the dough-making stage, compared to the five-year average of 97%, and 55% has dented, compared to 77% on average, with 11% of the crop mature, behind the normal pace of 24%.
