The planter was rolling Sunday for a southeastern Wisconsin farmer.
Ryan Nell farms between Juneau and Beaver Dam and he’s known for planting some of his soybeans much earlier than most of his neighbors. This year, Nell tells Brownfield he wasn’t the first one to get the planter rolling. “I do know of some other guys in Wisconsin that did plant some beans. I even know a guy that put a little corn in for a research plot.”
Nell says soybeans are tough and handle many challenging soil and weather conditions, but he’s concerned about soil temperatures in the 60s now and maybe getting a freeze in April if the beans emerge.
