Beef and pork prices have been under pressure this year from the combination of large supplies and demand uncertainties.
Sam Miller with BMO Harris says the outlook for livestock producers in 2019 does show a glimmer of hope. “There are certainly margin impacts for livestock producers are well,” he says. “But with lower corn and soybean prices mean that corn and soybean meal make lower feed costs for whatever class of livestock you’re talking about.”
He tells Brownfield while the trade rifts have been unsettling for the dairy and pork sectors, the newly agreed to trade agreement between the US, Canada, and Mexico should eventually provide more demand certainty and price support.
