Photo courtesy Kelly Nieuwenhuis The 2019 planting season was a long one for northwest Iowa farmer Kelly Nieuwenhuis. “We started April 26th and finished June 10th—that’s not normal,” Nieuwenhuis says. The corn he planted at the end of April took almost a month to emerge–but Nieuwenhuis says it looks good. “It’s eight inches tall now and looks pretty good—and then the corn we planted on June 5th or 6th, it’s just emerged,” he says. “So we’ve got stuff that’s a long ways behind and we’ve got some that’s right in line where it should be.” His soybeans have yet to emerge.
