Access to health care is a number one concern for young farmers

Having access to affordable health care is a major concern for young farmers and ranchers. Southern Indiana farmer Deidra Gottbrath grows corn, soybeans, and popcorn in Washington County.

“As young farmers it’s entirely a day-to-day struggle with a lot of us not having access to affordable care,” she says. “Also, for me it hits a special note, because working in healthcare I see that over and over again and being a young farmer who continues to have an off-the-farm job.”

Gottbrath is a critical care nurse in Louisville.
