A storm system currently centered over the upper Great Lakes region will gradually weaken. However, the threat of locally severe thunderstorms will linger through Saturday in parts of the eastern U.S., while snow showers will shift from the northern Plains into portions of the Great Lakes States.
In the storm’s wake, frost and freezes should occur as far south as the central Plains and the Tennessee Valley. Additional frost and freezes may occur next week, possibly extending as far south as Texas’ northern panhandle.
