The executive vice president of the American Farm Bureau Federation says Congress needs to finalize the next farm bill sooner rather than later.
Joby Young says a one-year extension of the 2018 Farm Bill will limit disruptions in the short term, but producers need long-term certainty. “With the expiration of the 2018 bill on September 30th, now we won’t see programs expiring and that sort of thing. That’s a little bit of good news, but we’re still focused on a five-year reauthorization of the farm bill.”
Speaking to Brownfield at the 2023 National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention in Kansas City, he says economic conditions have worsened over the last five years and updates are needed.
