African Swine Fever concerns supporting hog prices

There’s been speculation that China has had trouble controlling the spread of African Swine Fever and a livestock economist says that could be behind the recent strength in the hog market.

University of Missouri’s Scott Brown says this might also be a risk management opportunity as US pork producers are struggling right now.  “We’re still going to produce a lot of pork in this country in 2018,” he says.  “Being able to find a point in time to be willing to lock in some prices.
