The first cases of African swine fever in Thailand have been confirmed. According to the World Organization for Animal Health three pigs were purchased in 2021 as pets by a private citizen. All three pigs died in early December and one pig was sent to a university for a necropsy to diagnose the cause of the animal’s sudden death.
Thailand’s Department of Livestock Development has been conducting active and passing surveillance since Chinese Taipei reported positive samples in pork products shipped in from Thailand’s Nakhon Panthom province.
