A University of Illinois economist says he wouldn’t be surprised if some farmers change their minds about what to plant this spring.
Todd Hubbs tells Brownfield, “I think there’s still going to be opportunities to shift. It really might depend on how prices evolve in the next month or so before we get really deep in the planting window in the corn belt. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw an acreage shift before it’s all said and done.”
Hubbs says if farmers plant 3.6 million more acres of corn this year, production would exceed use projections by 300-thousand bushels.
