An agronomist remains optimistic about yields, despite the very dry growing season. B
Brandon Forseth with Dairyland Seeds tells Brownfield farmers and other agronomists are pleased with how modern genetics helps crops tolerate drought. Forseth says corn and soybean height is going to be suppressed, but he’s encouraged by field observations. “So far, a lot of what I’m seeing is a lot of that crop still has the ear potential still there. We’re getting those 14, 16, 18 kernal rows on an ear, which is a good sign at this point.”
Forseth says there is a lot of growing season left, and timely rain now can go a long way toward a good yield.
