A Midwest agronomist recommends farmers monitor soil temperatures ahead of planting season.
Zach Carlson with Sound Agriculture based in Nebraska tells Brownfield there will be a lot of variability across the Corn Belt this year.
“We have certain areas that are higher in snowpack and we have some areas that have not seen any snowpack or it has already melted off. In Nebraska, temperatures over on the eastern side and southeast are a lot warmer compared to the north and northwest.”
He says anytime the sun is hitting bare soil, it warms up quickly, so it is important to look at both the 24 to 48-hour forecast and the 7 to 10-day forecast.
