For the remainder of Friday, spotty rain showers will stretch from the western Gulf Coast region into the Midwest, while a separate area of locally heavy precipitation will spread from southern California into the Southwest.  In addition, a Pacific cold front will generate a few rain and snow showers in the Northwest.

During the weekend before Christmas, precipitation will coalesce across the nation’s mid-section, as the Southwestern storm system drifts eastward.  Most of the precipitation will be in the form of rain, although some snow will accumulate from higher elevations of the Four Corners States into the central Rockies, eventually reaching an area of the Plains centered on South Dakota and Nebraska.
