An active weather pattern ahead for the Heartland

During the weekend, an impressive, winter-like storm will deliver wind-driven snow to the northern Rockies and adjacent High Plains.

Farther east, storm-total rainfall could reach 1 to 3 inches across the remainder of the northern Plains, as well as an area stretching from Kansas into the Great Lakes region. In contrast, warm, mostly dry weather will persist from the Gulf Coast northward into the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic States.

By early next week, hard freezes will end the

growing season across the northern High Plains and much of the interior

Northwest.
