ARA says prevent plant acres will leave unsold seed, products in retailers’ hands

Agricultural Retailers Association CEO Daren Coppock says the ARA supports disaster relief legislation but says the ARA doesn’t want undue incentives for growers to claim prevent plant acres. “All of us in the system, whether we retailers, growers or even the grain elevators on the output side, are all better off when there’s production going on out there,” Coppock told Brownfield Ag News Wednesday. Coppock says they’re not trying to undermine producers’ ability to take prevent plant if that’s what farmers need, because “if farmers don’t succeed, retailers don’t succeed.” “All we’re trying to do is make sure when this is implemented that there isn’t an unintended or undue influence there that would drive somebody to say ‘I’m going to take prevented plant,’ when production remains a viable option for them,” said Coppock.
