China’s largest pork producing province has officially reported its first outbreak of African Swine Fever. Ten of 16 pigs diagnosed with the virus died at a farm in the Sichuan province.
To date, 18 of China’s 31 provinces and regions have battled the disease.
China’s Ministry of Agriculture says the country continues to ramp up biosecurity measures to help curb the spread of the disease.
Hog futures are sharply higher this morning as there is increased concern the disease will cause a disruption to the global pork supply which would likely increase demand for US pork products.
