U.S. red meat and poultry in cold storage at the end of October were above year ago levels. That followed aggressive marketing of cattle, hogs, and chickens during the month. Several turkey categories notched record lows partially due to retailers preparing for Thanksgiving.
The USDA says red meat in cold storage totaled 1.052 billion pounds, 11% above a year ago, with an 8% rise for beef to 509.949 million pounds and a 16% jump in pork to 511.056 million.
