Beekeepers concerned about effect of combined chemicals

Beekeepers would like to have more information about various chemical combinations and how they affect bees.

The President of the Wisconsin Honey Producer’s Association says keeping honeybees healthy and productive remains his biggest challenge.  Kent Pegorsch says, “They live about seven weeks in the summertime, but that last week is actually when they gather the honey, so if the honeybee’s life is shortened by some of these chemicals constantly being introduced into the hives, then you basically lose the productive part of that honeybee’s life.”

Pegorsch tells Brownfield it’s not just neonicotinoids that have beekeepers concerned because they need data on how other herbicides and pesticide combinations impact bees.
