U.S. broiler-type egg sets and chick placements were up for the third week in a row but continue to trend below a year ago.
Those year-to-year declines are due to slower demand, with the industry also monitoring the spread of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza caused by migratory birds.
The USDA says broiler-type egg sets last week were 236.991 million, 2% less than last year, with the average hatchability up fractionally, holding above 80%.
