Cargill Protein has developed a robotic cattle driver with input from animal welfare expert Dr. Temple Grandin. Cargill says the robots are operated from a catwalk above the pens by workers, lowering their safety risks and reducing stress on cattle.
The prototype was tested at two beef plants including Cargill’s Schuyler, Nebraska beef processing facilities. The manager of that plant says the robot provides a much safer workplace for employees and allows them to learn new technology skills.
