The Centers for Disease Control issued a nationwide alert Tuesday, warning consumers to throw away any type of romaine lettuce because it could be contaminated with E. coli.
The CDC says consumers should also wash and sanitize any refrigerator drawers or shelves where the lettuce was stored.
Thirty-two illnesses have been reported from 11 states including Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
The FDA is working to trace the origin of the contaminated lettuce, but no common grower, supplier, distributor, or brand has been identified yet.
