The dairy industry is celebrating the 100th anniversary of safer dairy and milk products.
Jessica Kassel with the St. Louis Dairy Council says the Grade “A” Pasteurized Milk Ordinance began in 1924 as the Standard Milk Ordinance. “It set the rules and regulations for processing and packaging, grading, milk, and milk products that we buy in the grocery store,” she says. “It has helped the dairy industry pasteurize our milk, and it has delivered a century of safety.”
She tells Brownfield the ordinance has significantly reduced the risk of food-borne illness in dairy products.
