Checklists can help lower farm fatalities

The outreach

specialist for the National Farm Medicine Center says that following a safety

checklist can cut down on farm fatalities.

Melissa Ploeckelman tells Brownfield NFMC has a joint program with the Upper Midwest Safety and Health Center that creates checklists for farmers to use once a month to be more aware of farm safety.

“It makes them [farmers] think about safety every month,” Ploeckelman said. “And it creates a discussion about safety on different areas of the farm.”

Ploeckelman said these checklists are not meant to be the only farm safety tool but help to keep safety in the minds of farmers.
