US Meat Export Federation economist Erin Borror says there
could be a workaround so US pork headed into China no longer faces tariffs.
She says Chinese importers are preparing applications for waivers on import tariffs for more than 700 goods imported from the US. “Beef and pork were on the eligible products list,” she says. “We don’t know what happens with this – but there is a chance that pork tariff lines where all of our product is traded could be listed as exempt from paying the retaliatory tariff.”
Borror says aside from getting a trade agreement with China
signed, this could be the best news for pork products heading into the country.
