Cleanup continues at Wisconsin avian influenza site

Wisconsin and federal officials say there are no new highly-pathogenic avian influenza cases in Wisconsin, but the cleanup work continues.

Dr. Darlene Konkle is the state veterinarian. She says, “Disposal is complete at the Rock County flock, and disposal via composting is ongoing for the Jefferson County flock.”

Konkle says it might be 60 to 80 days before Cold Springs Egg Farm near Palmyra, Wisconsin can begin restocking the barns.  She says a site disinfection step and virus inactivation step which might include heat must be done first, along with more environmental sampling.
