CME milk futures down, cash dairy up to start 2024

Milk futures were lower and the cash dairy markets were steady to higher Tuesday to start the new year on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. 

January Class III milk was down $0.02 at $15.41.  February was down $0.11 at $15.63.  March was down $0.12 at $16.29.  April was down $0.04 at $17.10.  May through November contracts ranged from unchanged from July through October to five cents lower in May. 

Dry whey was unchanged for a third straight trading session at $0.3850.  No sales were recorded. 

Forty-pound cheese blocks were up $0.01 at $1.48.  One sale was recorded at that price. 

Cheese barrels were up $0.04 at $1.44.  Ten sales were recorded, ranging from $1.43 to $1.45. 

Butter was up $0.02 at $2.6850.  Four sales were recorded, ranging from $2.6675 to $2.6850. 

Nonfat dry milk was up $0.0025 at $1.1725.  One sale was recorded at $1.17.
