Across the Corn Belt, frigid weather prevails. Friday morning’s low temperatures fell to 0° or below as far south as central Missouri and plunged below -20° in portions of the upper Great Lakes region. Across the southern and eastern Corn Belt, a shallow snow cover is helping to provide soft red winter wheat with some protection from the sudden cold wave. Currently, a few snow showers linger across the eastern Corn Belt.
On the Plains, temperatures are starting to recover, although sub-zero temperatures linger early Friday in the eastern Dakotas.
