Conditions in north-central Iowa look more like early April than mid-May

A north-central Iowa farmer behind on planting says conditions resemble early April rather than mid-May.

Wayne Fredericks of Osage is a strip and no-till corn and soybean grower who uses cover crops.

He tells Brownfield very little corn has been planted in his area this spring.

“For this part of the state we’ve just had a late winter (with) late snow, we had a cooler-than-normal April, record-setting in fact.”

Looking out his window at a nearby corn field with cover crops, Fredericks says it looks like the view you’d see the 1st of April instead of the middle of May.
