Say what you will about President Trump and his negotiating style – “threaten-loudly-and-often-and-swing-a-big-stick”— the man and his team pulled it off. It took well over a year, but Trump can chalk up another campaign promise fulfilled, unveiling late last weekend the last leg of the three-legged stool that will be, it’s hoped, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
I hope Trump gave U.S. Special Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer, the White House point man on NAFTA 2.0, a bonus of some kind when the deal was done because that man surely earned it.
