USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says after a wet spring, crops need consistent rain this summer.
“The fact that we have seen this excessively wet spring means that we can’t see the weather turn completely dry at any point because that will result in serious compaction of soil, crusting of topsoil, and will lead to significant crop stress in a very short period of time.”
Rippey says in
wet areas there will be a fine line this year between regular rains and too
much moisture.
