A sharp southward dip in the jet stream will allow cool air to become entrenched for the remainder of the week in most areas east of the Rockies. Relative to normal, the coolest weather should cover the eastern Plains and the upper Midwest. Elsewhere, a heat wave west of the Rockies will persist for much of the week. A slow-moving disturbance will pivot through the Plains and Midwest, generating scattered to widespread showers that could total 1 to 2 inches.
