Cool weather to start, a return to a drier pattern ahead for much of the Heartland

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures from the Gulf Coast northward into the Ohio Valley, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail along and west of a line from western Texas to northern Wisconsin.

Meanwhile, near- or below-normal precipitation across most of the country should contrast with wetter-than-normal conditions in a few spots, including northern Washington, southern Florida, and an area along the Atlantic Coast from Virginia to southern New England.
