Another cool and wet week hindered Illinois crop development. USDA reporters say normal average temperatures were recorded in the extreme southwest and southeast Illinois, but most of the state was up to five degrees below average. Rainfall ranged from one to five inches, with the heaviest around Springfield and in parts of the Mississippi River valley.
Statewide, 82% of corn is in the dough stage, with 46% dented and only 2% mature. Ninety-five percent of soybeans are blooming, with 84% setting pods.
