The USDA reports combines are rolling in Illinois.
The agency says as of Sunday, 1% of the corn crop is harvested which is earlier than average with 15% mature. The crop is rated 57% good to excellent, a drop of 10 percentage points on the week.
Danny Rubin farms in Fayette and Marion counties and tells Brownfield corn in his area got hurt from the drought. “I think we are looking at least 40 to 50 bushels per acre lower than last year on corn.”
The USDA says 7% of Illinois soybeans are dropping leaves with 58% of the crop in good to excellent condition also down 10 points on the week.
